Meaning of Walking in Darkness

0

Walking in darkness refers to the“physical and spiritual living conditions“ of non-believers. Individuals who do not trust in Christ for their salvation. And we’re not cleansed of all unrighteousness.

You can identify them by their objectionable behavior and unjust actions. To God, all have sinned and fallen short of His glory. This means we have all walked in darkness at some point in life.

Walking in Darkness

Walking in darkness, you struggle against the forces of evil, the prince of the power of the air or Satan. Wandering aimless, living in a sinful condition, you’re separated from a loving God.

As the Apostle John states in 1 John 1 5-8 KJV;

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1 5-8 KJV

Walking in darkness, you’re blinded to the truth of Jesus Christ. Thus, you live according to the course of the world, are walking in darkness, and do not practice the truth.

Physical and Spiritual Living Conditions

When you choose to disbelieve in Jesus Christ, you will suffer sinful consequences. The condition of your heart, mind, and spirit will not be in alignment with the truth of Jesus Christ.

Your heart’s desire will be to sin and sin will rule over you. Thus, you’ll walk according to the course of this world. According to the prince of the power of the air, and the spirit that is now working in the children of disobedience.

As it states in the book of Ephesians;

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. Ephesians 2: 2-3KJV

The spiritual condition of those who are walking in darkness is downtrodden.

You’re oppressed and discouraged in life.

Walking in darkness you live in fear, and with guilt and self-shame, and have no hope. You fulfill the desires of the flesh and the mind. Your spirit is dead in Christ. And you’re by nature the children of wrath.

Who is the ruler of the darkness?

The ruler of the darkness is Beelzebub, Satan or the devil. He is the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now working in the children of disobedience.

The devil is a powerful adversary.

Once the most beautiful angel, through disobedience, he became God’s adversary. He is in direct opposition to God and His Word. The devil is also your adversary and seeks to devour whom he can.

In the Bible, the devil is known as Satan;

Beelzebub the prince of the devils, great dragon, old serpent, leviathan the piercing serpent and the prince of the power of the air. (Revelation 12:9, 20:2, Isaiah 27:1, Matthew 12:24, Ephesians 2:2)

What is the Devil’s Nature?

The nature of the devil and his character is to be deceptive. His intentions are to deceive and mislead you with deception and lies. The devil has a plan and if you’re not wise to his nature and his plan you will join him in the lake of fire and brimstone.

The devil is being relentless in his pursuit of deception now more than ever. He knows he has but a short time before God will cast him into the lake of fire and brimstone.

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever. (Revelation 20:10)

The Devil is a Murderer and a Liar

The devil is the father of lies and is not capable of abiding in or speaking the truth.

The devil was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44)

The devil seeks to deceive you into believing him. He’s counting on you to believe his lies. And to question the Word of God (The Bible). If the devil can get you to believe his lies, you will lose your chance for salvation thru Jesus Christ. Then you’ll be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone which is the Second Death or eternal separation from God.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:8)

The Devil is an Adversary

The devil is God’s adversary and he is in direct opposition to God and the word of God. The devil is also your adversary and he seeks to devour whom he can.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

The devil is seeking to devour your testimony, faith in Jesus, eternal salvation and your life. He opposes anything and everything related to God and his word.

The Wiles of the Devil

The devil will use tricks to deceive us. The devil tried to deceive Jesus before he died on the cross.

Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. (Matthew 4 1-11)

The Power of Darkness

The devil is “the prince of this world” John14: 30. And “the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience” Ephesians 2:2. The devil had the power of darkness and until Christ died on the cross “the devil had the power of death.” Hebrews 2:14

Battling the Devil

I’ve found the devil uses our mental state of mind and weakened emotions to deceive us. He will use our most vulnerable moments in life to trick us. There were times when I didn’t stay grounded in God’s word. There were times when the cares of this world had control over the mental and emotional states within me.

This weakened the armor of God and left me open for the devil’s deception to fall upon me. The devil used these vulnerable moments to trick and deceive me. This left my mind, spirit, and emotions in a state of fear, confusion and complete despair.

The Light of the World

Jesus is the light of the world. He conquered the power of death when he died on the cross.

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John8:12)

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7)

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1 12-14)

How to Defeat the Devil

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (Ephesians 6 10-18)

What is the way out of the darkness?

When you’re walking in darkness your spirit becomes weighed down by the burdens of sin. Overburdened with sin, you experience feelings of low self-worth and live with self-shame.

When you’re walking in darkness, you experience tremendous pain and suffering. Life can be discouraging. In the darkness, your carnal mind serves you not. Thus, you believe the lie that Jesus is not real.

The road you’re traveling on is the broadway and destruction will be your end. When you’re lost in the darkness you can be proud or haughty, and resistant to change of mind and heart.

Don’t you see?

Humanity has fallen from God’s grace. We stumble in a dysfunctional world that’s filled with corruption and death.

The healing light shines from above with love to show you the narrow way out of the darkness. This healing light of HOPE is the one you seek. So come to the Lord those of you who are humble and meek.

Walk forth by faith and embrace his free gift of eternal salvation. Be open to change and renew your mind in God’s word. The darkness will flee and the light of Christ will remain.

He will ease your pain and suffering, and his burden is light. His love is eternal and will never fail. In Christ, you will find the light of LIFE.

There is only one way out of the darkness.

The Way, The truth, and The Life

The Lord Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the only one who can rescue you from the powers of darkness and sinful conditions.

Will you to trust in Him to rescue and cleanses you from all unrighteousness?

When you trust in the Lord, He illuminates the darkness and the devil will flee.

When you choose to walk by faith in the light of Christ the peace of God will permeate your mind and spirit. And the peace of God surpasses all human knowledge or understanding.

He will calm your fears, and ease your burdens of guilt, shame and pain, and suffering. The love of God will fill your heart and you will find a new life in Him and an abundant life forever.

The question is;

Will you place your trust in the Lord, Jesus Christ?
